The Rebels jumped from No. 20 to No. 17 in the AP Top 25 poll, following their impressive 6-0 start to the season. UNLV has won four of their games by double digits, including a 42-13 rout of defending Mountain West champion San Jose State.
UNLV’s defense has been a major factor in their success, allowing the second-fewest points per game in the nation (8.7). Defensive coordinator William Bradley has his unit playing at an elite level, forcing 10 turnovers and allowing only two touchdowns in regulation.
The offense has also shown signs of progress, led by freshman quarterback Harrison Bailey. Bailey has thrown for 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns, while also running for two scores. The Rebels’ young receivers have stepped up, with sophomore Kyle Williams and freshman Michael Jackson averaging over 100 receiving yards per game.
UNLV will return to action on Saturday when they host Wyoming. The Cowboys are 5-2 this season, but UNLV will be favored to improve their record to 7-0. The Rebels then face a tough road test at No. 6 Utah on October 22, followed by a home game against No. 10 USC on November 5.
With the team’s strong start and impressive national ranking, UNLV football is generating excitement in the Las Vegas community. The Rebels have proven that they can compete with the best teams in the country and have the potential to make a run at a Mountain West championship.
