Cowboys Not Interested In Daniel Jones After Giants Release

“While we appreciate Daniel Jones’ talent and leadership, we believe that there are other quarterbacks available who are a better fit for our system,” said a Cowboys front office executive, who requested anonymity. “We have a long-term plan in place, and Jones is not a part of that.”

Jones, 25, was drafted sixth overall by the Giants in 2019. Despite showing flashes of potential, he struggled with consistency and injuries throughout his four seasons in New York. In 2022, he threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions, but the Giants finished with a disappointing 4-13 record.

Experts believe that the Cowboys’ decision not to pursue Jones is a wise one. “Jones has limitations that would prevent him from reaching his full potential in Dallas,” said former NFL quarterback Chris Simms. “He’s not a great runner or passer under pressure, and he makes too many mistakes.”

The Cowboys are now expected to focus their efforts on acquiring a quarterback with a different skillset. Names like Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Baker Mayfield have been mentioned as potential targets.

“We’re looking for a quarterback who can make plays with his arm and his legs,” said Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy. “Someone who can lead this offense to the next level and compete for a championship.”

The Cowboys’ search for a new quarterback is a crucial one as they look to rebound from a disappointing 12-5 season in 2022. The addition of a talented signal-caller could bolster their offense and give them a legitimate shot at winning the NFC East in 2023.
