Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, put on a dazzling performance, throwing for 326 yards and three touchdowns, including a spectacular 60-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jordyn Tyson in the fourth quarter.
“Shedeur played out of his mind today,” said Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell. “He’s a special player, and he made plays when we needed them most.”
Colorado’s defense also stepped up, forcing three turnovers, including a 70-yard pick-six by safety Isaiah Lewis in the second half. The Buffaloes limited Nebraska’s potent offense to just 351 yards, holding running back Anthony Grant to just 74 yards rushing.
Nebraska’s Big Red machine was stunned by the upset.
“This one hurts,” said Nebraska head coach Scott Frost. “We didn’t play our best football today, and Colorado deserves all the credit. We have a lot of season left, and we’re going to learn from this and get better.”
The win marks Colorado’s first over a ranked opponent since 2019 and their first victory over Nebraska since 2008. It also represents a significant step forward for Dorrell and his program.
“This is a huge win for our team,” said Dorrell. “It’s a great reward for all our hard work. We’re going to enjoy this one tonight, but we’re not going to rest on our laurels.”
Colorado (3-1) will face the Arizona Wildcats (2-2) next Saturday, while Nebraska (1-3) will look to rebound against the Indiana Hoosiers (3-0).
