Daniel Jones Was On Cowboys' Online Roster After Giants Release

The unexpected listing was first noticed by eagle-eyed fans who observed Jones’ name and profile picture among the Cowboys’ quarterbacks. However, the roster update was quickly corrected, with Jones being removed within a few hours.

“There was an error in our roster management system,” admitted Cowboys spokesperson Jessica Keener. “The issue has been resolved, and Daniel Jones is not a member of our team.”

Jones, who was drafted by the Giants sixth overall in 2019, struggled with injuries and inconsistent play during his tenure in New York. The Giants decided to part ways with the 25-year-old quarterback after acquiring veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in free agency.

Analysts believe that Jones’ brief inclusion on the Cowboys’ roster was likely a glitch. However, it has raised questions about his potential future in Dallas, where Cooper Rush is currently the backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott.

“While it’s unlikely that Jones would end up with the Cowboys, the fact that he was even listed on their roster suggests that he’s still being considered as an option,” said former NFL scout Josh Norris.

Jones’ release by the Giants and subsequent appearance on the Cowboys’ roster have added intrigue to the quarterback market. Several teams, including the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots, are reportedly interested in acquiring the former Duke standout.

As of now, Jones remains a free agent. It is unclear whether he will ultimately sign with the Cowboys or another team. However, the brief online listing has fueled speculation that his career may take an unexpected turn.
