UAB quarterback Diego Pavia has been selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year for the 2022 season. The redshirt sophomore led the Blazers to a 9-4 record and a berth in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl.
Pavia had an exceptional season, throwing for 3,081 yards and 23 touchdowns with only six interceptions. He also rushed for 442 yards and seven touchdowns. His impressive statistics made him a dual-threat weapon for UAB’s offense.
In addition to his conference player of the year award, Pavia was also named to the All-Conference USA First Team as a quarterback. He was one of the most prolific passers in the conference, ranking second in passing yards and touchdowns.
UAB head coach Trent Dilfer praised Pavia’s contributions to the team, saying, “Diego is an outstanding player and an even better leader. He has been the driving force behind our offense all season long.”
Pavia’s stellar play was instrumental in UAB’s successful season. The Blazers won six of their last seven games to earn a bowl bid. They will face the Memphis Tigers in the Independence Bowl on December 23rd.
Pavia’s award-winning season positions him as one of the top quarterbacks in Conference USA. He is expected to continue leading the Blazers’ offense in the years to come.
