Liam Payne 'Did Not Take His Own Life And Could Have Been Saved'

On August 25, 2023, Payne was found unresponsive in his Minneapolis apartment. Paramedics were called to the scene and transported him to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the medical examiner’s report, released today, Payne died from “acute alcohol intoxication.” The report also found that Payne had a history of alcohol abuse and had been prescribed naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal drug, in the past.

“We believe that if Mr. Payne had received naloxone sooner, he could have survived,” said Dr. Andrew Baker, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner. “This is a tragic case that underscores the importance of seeking medical attention when you or someone you know is experiencing a drug or alcohol overdose.”

Payne’s death has sent shockwaves through the music industry and among his fans. The singer was a member of the boy band One Direction, which rose to fame in the early 2010s.

“Liam was a talented artist and a kind soul,” said his former bandmate, Niall Horan. “His death is a huge loss for the world.”

Payne’s death has also raised questions about the availability of naloxone and the stigma surrounding drug addiction.

“We need to do more to make naloxone available to people who need it,” said Dr. Rebecca Park, an addiction specialist at the University of Minnesota. “And we need to reduce the stigma associated with drug addiction so that people are more willing to seek help.”

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is urging people who are struggling with drug or alcohol addiction to seek help. More information and resources are available on the county’s website.
