
“This is a monumental win for our program and our university,” said Texas State head coach Jake Spavital. “Our players and staff worked incredibly hard all season, and it paid off here tonight.”
The Bobcats (8-5, 7-3 Sun Belt) trailed 24-17 at halftime but rallied in the second half to secure the win.quarterback Layne Hatcher completed 23-of-33 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Calvin Hill rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown.
“Our defense stepped up in the second half and made some huge plays,” commented Spavital. “We forced three turnovers, and that was the difference in the game.”
The victory marks the culmination of Texas State’s most successful season since 2008. The Bobcats reached a program-high eight wins and finished third in the Sun Belt Conference West Division.
“I’m incredibly proud of our team and the way they represented Texas State tonight,” said university president Denise Trauth. “This win shows the progress our university has made in recent years.”
