Williams’ journey to Montlake began at Archbishop Murphy High School in Everett, Washington. Under the guidance of head coach Jerry Jensen, Williams excelled as a dual-threat quarterback. Jensen recognized Williams’ raw talent and identified him as a potential Division I prospect.
“We knew Demond had something special from the start,” said Jensen. “He had the arm strength, the mobility, and the intangibles to be a successful college quarterback.”
After a standout senior season, Williams attracted interest from several major college programs. Ultimately, he committed to the University of Washington, where he joined a crowded quarterback room featuring Jacob Eason and Dylan Morris.
Despite the competition, Williams impressed the Huskies coaching staff with his work ethic and dedication. Quarterbacks coach Tim Socha played a pivotal role in his development, focusing on Williams’ pocket presence, footwork, and decision-making.
“Demond has a natural feel for the game,” said Socha. “He’s a student of the game and always wants to improve.”
Williams spent his freshman and sophomore seasons learning behind Eason and Morris. However, he continued to hone his skills and prepare for his moment. In 2022, with Eason departed and Morris injured, Williams seized his opportunity.
He started the final six games of the season and led the Huskies to three wins, showing signs of the potential he had always possessed.
“I always knew I had the ability, but it took time and hard work to prove it,” said Williams. “I’m grateful for the support and guidance I’ve received along the way.”
As the undisputed QB1 for the 2023 season, Williams will be a key figure in the Huskies’ quest for a Pac-12 Championship. With his arm talent, athleticism, and leadership, he has the potential to lead the program to success.
Coach Kalen DeBoer believes Williams is ready to take the next step in his development. “Demond has proven himself over and over again,” said DeBoer. “He’s a special talent, and I have full confidence in his ability to lead this team.”
The calculated grooming of Demond Williams Jr. is a testament to the importance of patience, perseverance, and a well-designed plan. Williams’ journey from high school prospect to Husky QB1 is an inspiring story of a young man who realized his dream through hard work and the support of those around him.
